Harold E. Winkler Middle School: An Academy for International Studies

Harold E. Winkler Middle School, an IB World School, opened in August 2011, and is named for former superintendent Harold "Butch" Winkler, who led the district from the 1990s until 2009, and who still lives in our community. We serve grades 6-8. Our school is one of the most beautiful facilities in North Carolina, with our state-of-the-art performing center, beautiful grounds, and two gyms that seat approximately 1,500. We currently have over 1,000 students attending Winkler.

Vision: We are a community committed to growing and learning together.

 

Mission Statement: Our goal is to foster a community that values investing in the futures of our children. We believe that by encouraging self-reflection and independent thinking, our students will become knowledgeable, inquisitive, empathetic, and responsible individuals. Students will develop skills that will encourage them to grow and thrive in a diverse global society while positively impacting the world.
